Eddie Hamlin Jr.

Eddie “Son” Hamlin Jr. was called to his eternal home August the 29th, 2022. Eddie was born on May 10th, 1947 to the son of Mr. Eddie “Eaddy” Hamlin Sn. and Katie Hamlin of Florence. At an early age, Eddie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of Zion Temple Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor L.M. Lowery. Eddie served the Lord faithfully on the Men's Choir, Senior Choir, Usher Board, and other Auxiliaries. Eddie graduated from Johnson High School in 1967. Immediately after graduating, he joined the United States Army. After leaving the U.S. Army, he was employed with Seaboard Coastline, CSX Railroad, and SC Central Railroad as a Railroad Engineer. He retired from the SC Central Railroad in 2007. Eddie’s spiritual walk led to the start of the legendary singing group of Timmonsville known as “The Voices of Zion”. The Voices of Zion traveled from state to state spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through songs. He will forever be remembered for his strong singing voice, dedication, and words of encouragement. He later became the manager of The Taylor Brothers and Sisters of Timmonsville. He also was an advisor and driver for his son’s contemporary quartet group “The New Delegation”. Eddies’ love for the community was like no other and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was known for his exceptional gardening skills and harvesting potatoes, okra, beans, collards, and other delicious vegetables shared with others near and far. He leaves to cherish precious memories: His Loving Wife of 54 years, Bettie Jean Graham Hamlin of the home; two Sons, Derrick Lamont Hamlin (Golanda/Nessa) of Arizona and Travis Semaj Hamlin of Florence; three sisters, Edell Pettigrew of Timmonsville, Flora Hamlin of Kingstree, and Lizzie Baynard (Carl) of Arlington, TX; two adopted daughters, Edna Waiters (Steve) of Lamar and Moneka Williamson of Timmonsville; three grandchildren, Montrell Simon (Paige) of Savannah GA, Derrice Hamlin and Derrick Hamlin Jr; one special niece, Phyllis Williams of Florence; a special cousin, Chester Hamlin of Florence; three brothers-in-law Tommy Jones of New Jersey, Calvin Rouse (Gloria) of Jacksonville, FL and Jerome Rouse of Philadelphia, PA; one sister-in-law Elizabeth Durant (David) of Elliott; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. We say farewell and job well done to a good and faithful servant as he joins those who preceded him in death: his parents, Eddie and Katie Hamlin; three sisters, Vivian Williams, Lorine Battle and Cora Jones and two brothers-in-law, Moses Williams and Ronnie Pettigrew.
