Le'Vernice Edwards

Ms. Le’Vernice Angela Edwards, a native of Florence, South Carolina, was born February 10, 1971, to Deacon Levern Edwards, Jr. and Jo-Ann Scott Edwards. During her remarkable lifespan, Le’Vernice’s achievements and accomplishments were significant. She received her education in Florence County public schools, graduating from Timmonsville High School, Class of 1989. She received her professional education and training from Benedict College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1993 and her Master of Art in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. Professionally, LeVernice served as a teacher mentor at Darlington Middle School. Before retiring, Le’Vernice worked at Wallace Greg Elementary School (Florence School District 1), Brockington Elementary School (Florence School District 4 (Timmonsville)), Darlington Middle School, and Darlington County Intervention School. During her 29 years working in Public Education, she was a literacy coach, curriculum coordinator, assistant principal, and principal. In June 2024, Darlington County School District acknowledged Le’Vernice for her retirement and 28 years of service. A lifetime member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Timmonsville, SC, her love for God and his people was exemplified beyond the church walls in various ways. Her life personified a servant leader. She served in many capacities of ministries at Mt. Carmel, including Willing Worker, Missionary Society, Adults United, and Sunday School Teacher, and worked with the youth of the church. In 2023, she started Mt. Carmel University and, in April 2024, coordinated the first Spring Fling. Because of her enthusiastic leadership skills, Le’Vernice is characterized as a perfectionist, firm leader, conqueror, humble, and willing to assist in any capacity. The late Evangelist Margaret McAllister-Johnson often referred to LeVernice as a Minister-Teacher because of her knowledge of scripture and how she loved teaching it to others. LeVernice was a proud Brockington, Johnson, and Timmonsville High Schools (BJT) Alumni Association member. She was the Chairperson of the Scholarship committee. LeVernice was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was initiated into the Gamma Upsilon Chapter in the Spring 1992 line at Benedict College. Her favorite memory was having the honor to welcome her niece, Camryn, into their beloved sorority 30 years later. She will always remind us that her niece is her sister. Left to cherish her countless fond memories are her loving parents, Deacon and Deaconess Levern Jr. and Jo-Ann Edwards; her caring sister, LaShonnette S. Edwards; her niece, Camryn Edwards; a special niece, Kaitlin McAllister; sister-cousin Rosalyn (Larry) Goldsmith; godchildren, Robert D. Graham and Miles Johnson; a special nephew, Mason Nero; special cousins, Michael (Jeanette) Hamlin and Dory (Twilla) McAllister; aunts, Benzina Scott, Herlene Scott, Betty Edwards, Pearlie Mae Gee, Thomasina (Stanley) James; uncles, Andrew (Linda) Scott, Clifton (Valerie) Scott, Julius Sr. (Sarah) Parrott, Jerome (Dorothy) Edwards, Truman Sr. (Celestine) Edwards, and Chester (Gladys) Hamlin; great aunts, Ruby Garner, Maebell Edwards, and Corrine Stewart; special friends, Michelle (Chris) Cain, Michele (Tremayne) Johnson, Willie Jr. (Regina) Jones, Vickie Lowery, Nicole Spicer, and host of relatives and friends. LeVernice is preceded in death by her grandparents, Levern, Sr, (Maggie) Edwards, Nathan, Sr. (Edith) Scott, and uncles Joseph Scott, Nathan Scott, Jr., and Rudolph Gee.
