Nathan Scott

Nathan Gurley Scott was born on August 1, 1943, to the late Louise Gurley and later adopted by the late Reverend George and Lola Scott. Nathan was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, South Carolina. He joined Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Olanta, South Carolina under the leadership of his father the late Rev. George Scott where he accepted Christ as his savior. He also attended St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church in Lamar, South Carolina. Nathan was employed with Carnell construction company for over 40 years and worked as a foreman until he retired at the age of 62 years old. Nathan was united in holy matrimony to Generine Lewis and this union was blessed with four daughters and one son. Nathan loved spending time with his family, gardening, sitting on his back porch while listening to music, NASCAR races, and football which he was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In addition to his parents, Nathan was preceded in death by his brothers; Moses Scott, David Scott, Elliott Scott, and L. W. McElveen; his sisters Orselia Nelson, Oneter Scott – Burgess, Rosa Mae Matthews, Carolyn Scott Jordan, Margaret Rogers, Tonya Preston, Nathine Johnson, Maydalene Gaskins; brothers-in-law, Rev. John Gee, and a sister-in-law Dorothy Lewis. He leaves to cherish loving memories to: his wife Generine Lewis Scott; his children, Yolanda (Tyron) Dennison, of West Columbia, South Carolina, Brenda (Velt) Hickmon, of Camden, South Carolina, Gregory Scott of Florence, South Carolina and Melissa Scott of West Columbia, South Carolina; siblings, Ruby Gurley, Leon Gurley, Bridgett Wright, Leroy Gurley all of Florence, South Carolina, Mary Howard, Rudolph Gurley, Lee Anna Gurley, and George Gurley all of Darlington, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Darniece Scott Calistroy, Desmond Scott, Daniya Scott, Dalonda Scott, Courtney Ludley, Caitlyn Ludley, and Caidyn Ludley; two great grandchildren, Dontae Calistro, Jr., and Delilah Calistro; five step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joan Gee, Alice Juanita Lewis, Janette Gee, and Bobbie Jean Lewis; brothers-in-law, Matthew Lewis and Pastor Walter (Mildred) Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
