During the early morning of, July 31, 2020, Dallas Rhodes took his final breath at the age of 69. The world has lost a great father, son, brother, cousin and companion. Dallas was born on August 5, 1950 to the late Walter Nelson and the late Miona Rhodes. At an early age, Dallas joined St. John United Methodist Church and was active in the youth ministries. Dallas spent his early years living in Lynchburg and was a proud member of the 1969 graduating class of Eastern High School in Sumter, SC. Dallas spent the majority of his adult years in New York where he retired from Foodliner Trucking company after 20 years of service. Dallas was known for his charisma, quick wit and the love he shared for his family. There wasn’t a time that you didn’t see him laughing and smiling. He was always the center of attention at family events. Proudly boasting his title as the 1st Grandchild and all of his cousins fondly looking up to him as the “big brother”. Dallas was preceded in death by his siblings, Wallace Nelson, Charles Nelson and Vivian Nelson. Dallas is survived by his longtime companion, Cynthia Coleman; 5 Children; Eric Walker (Monica) of McDonough, GA, Jermaine Norman (Ruth) of Bronx, NY, Tia McNeil of Sanford, NC Gregory Ford of Harlem, NY, and Kenan Ford of Long Island, NY; Step Mother, Icysbell Nelson; Siblings; Joretha Nelson, Sandra (Jerry) Harrison, Overseer Cattie McNeil all of Florence,SC Wanda Nelson of Charlotte, Debbie (Hosea) Rogers of Oviedo, FL, Rosa Mary (James) Rogers of Bishopville, SC, Lana (Carl) Fennell of Wilmington, NC, BettyWells of Sumter, SC, Kemmie (Shirley) Nelson of Lynchburg,SC, Johnny (Judy) Moses of Bishopville, SC., Bonnie Coker of Lynchburg, SC and Pamela (Alfonzia) Williams Lynchburg; Grandchildren; Meilani, Jared, Mykayla, Myles, Azariah, Taveon, Brandon and Jaelyn; Aunts and Uncles; Lou Scott of Winston Salem, NC, Mary Quattlebaum Auntie/Mother of Lynchburg, SC, Ella Keals of Sumter, SC, Francine Rhodes of New York, NY, Wallace (Josephine) Rhodes of Winston Salem, NC, Carrell & George Rhodes of Lynchburg, SC, and Woodrow Keels of Washington, DC. Countless extended family and found family members who all held him in the highest regard and he was loved dearly.
