Joan Lewis Gee

Mrs. Joan Lewis Gee is the second oldest daughter born to the late Bishop Walter, Sr. and Evalena Lewis in Darlington County South Carolina. Joan received her public education in the Darlington County School District in Lamar, South Carolina completing at Spaulding High Class of 1965. Upon graduation, she encountered the love of her life John Gee and they were joined in Holy Matrimony in August of 1968 to this union five boys were born. When Joan married John, he was not a preacher/pastor at that time but God had a plan for her to the become a preacher/pastors’ wife and that, she was. She served as a former first lady to the following churches: Carver Street Baptist Church and Ousledale Baptist Church. She was a member of the St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church under her fathers’ leadership and during that tenure she worked in the church in whatever capacity she was needed. In addition, she was a member of the young adult choir for a number of years while attending. She worked and planted gardens and provided as a virtuous woman would do for her family. In the atmosphere there was a call beyond home to pursue the work and mission that God would have her to do. Flexible she was in every aspect to perform over requirement. While making home for family, her journey to higher education was embarked on at Francis Marion University. Her work in the school district began in 1978 in Timmonsville, South Carolina and continued to the Darlington County schools serving throughout the region. Just to name a few: formerly known as St. John High School, Pate Elementary as Lab Manager, Billie Hardee Home for Boys as Lab Manager which would lead to her final work, preparing her for retirement from the Darlington County schools. Joan Lewis Gee was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John Gee (husband), Kim Oneal Gee (son), and Tydric Wilson (grandson); Matthew (Dorothy) Lewis (brother and sister-in-law), Nathan Scott (Brother-in-law); in-laws, Mr. Leander (Gertie) Gee, Lillie Ruth (Silas) Barr, and Peggy Gee. Joan leaves precious memories with her four sons: John (Tammie) Gee Sr., Ronnie L. (Fanta) Gee, Donnie L. Gee, Rev. Dr. Kavara G. Gee, Sr.; five siblings: Alice Lewis, Jeanette Gee, Generine Scott, Bobbie Lewis, and Deacon Walter (Mildred) Lewis, Jr.; thirteen Grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. The family appreciates all of your love and concern during this difficult time; however, there will be no visitation at the residence at this time.
