Larry Johnson

Deacon Larry Johnson was born on October 15, 1951, to the late David “DJ” and Clara Mae Johnson. He peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, August 25, 2025. Larry received his education in the Florence District One School System and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps. Upon returning home, he dedicated more than 30 years as a local truck driver and a hardworking farmer until his health began to decline. He was also a longtime member and Deacon at AFC Restoration and Deliverance Family Worship Center. Prior to his health challenges, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking hogs, playing checkers, and, most of all, cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents, David “Tobe” Johnson Sr. and Pauline Butler Johnson; granddaughter, Hannah K. Hawkins; nephew, Rodney Lee Johnson Jr.; niece, Morgan Kay Jordan; four brothers-in-law, Marion Williams, Bobby Burgess, Sam Burgess, and Rodney Rush; and his father-in-law, Joe Burgess. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory his devoted wife, Evangelist Joe Anne Johnson of the home; two beloved daughters, Angela (Spencer) Hawkins and Elaine Lynn Wheeler; four grandchildren, Byron D. Jackson, CeDesia Burgess, Jakaila Burgess, and Freddy Sparks; and one great-grandson, KyAir Sparks, of whom he was especially proud. Larry is also survived by his thirteen siblings: Bennie (Shelia) Johnson, Rodney (Betty) Johnson, Craig (Dionne) Johnson, Derrick (Elaine) Johnson, Michael (Andrea) Johnson, Terrence (Sonia) Johnson, Diane Haigler, Cindy (Mike) Worrell, Bonita (Boykin) Jordan, Wanda (Jack) Smith, Vickie Williams, Pam (Shawn) Smith, and Tisha (Terrele) Bailey. He is further survived by one uncle, Herbert (Ralphine) Johnson; three aunts, Dorothy White, Caroline Franklin, and Pastor Minnie Pearl Johnson; his mother-in-law, Effie Dell Burgess; four sisters-in-law, Caffie Burgess, Collette Burgess, Brenda Fulmore, and Teresa Rush; three brothers-in-law, John Allen Burgess, Jamie Burgess, and Nicholas (Felicia) Burgess; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. Visitation will be held at the home at 303 Cusaac Road, Timmonsville, SC.
